Encinitas Local Restaurants

Auggie's House of Crab
This is one of the most unique restaurant experiences I've ever had. Auggie, the owner, is a master at boiling crabs, shrimp, lobster and crawfish (yes I did say crawfish). We're talking real ones from Louisiana! They boil everything up and bring right to your table and dump it in a pile right in the middle on top of waxed butcher paper. It's so absolutely delicous you'll want to sit and chat and nibble for hours. The tap beer is first rate and they even have La Crema Chardonnay, my favorite, for those who aren't beer drinkers. On the 101 just South of Leucadia Blvd on the West side. Totally fabulous. Call me if you want the first hand details. You can't go wrong at Auggies.

D Street Bar and Grille
Good bar food along the 101 with lots of TV's to watch your favorite sporting event. Some of customer's favorites include Philly Cheesesteaks, Home Made Pizza, Filet Mignon and fabulous bergers.. We also have a children's menu so bring the family!

Swami's Café
Swami's has true "comfortable and casual" atmosphere that typifies Encinitas as a beach town. I've eaten here many times and I've never had anything I didn't like. Everyone sits outside, the food is mostly natural and it's well known for its awesome breakfast and lunch. Don't miss this one.

Firefly Grill and Wine Bar
This is a cozy North County restaurant serving upscale comfort food with well valued wine menu. The owner was a longtime Morton's (steak house) executive and has paired his food service expertise with the cooking of chef Aaron Daily, formerly of the Hotel Del Coronado Prince of Wales. Foods like tapas trio (andouille sausage, marinated Spanish olives and bacon-wrapped dates) are great. Located in Encinitas.

Potato Shack Café
One of the best breakfasts around. Huge pancakes and of course awesome potatoes. Most of the dining is outside on an offstreet of the 101. Totally local with great food.

Via Italia Trattoria
Northern Italian cuisine in a wonderful relaxed atmosphere along the 101 in the heart of Encinitas. Palo is the owner and he'll take good care of you. Try the Cucumber Martini it's amazing. Anything on the menu is good. You can eat out on the side walk in the evening when it's cool and nice. 565 South Coast Hwy 101 760-479-9757

Vigilucci's
This is a fairly trendy trattoria with great food and atmosphere. Locally owned by a native of Milan, the menu offers more than 20 fish dishes, veal, beef and pasta creations, for surprisingly reasonable prices. The veal and saltimbocca is wonderful. You can sit outside along the 101 under the "Encinitas" sign and watch passers by.

Trattoria i Trulli
Nouvelle Italian cuisine  in Old Encinitas.  The menu seems to change daily and the chef is always creating a hybrid version of things I thought were great and then I come back later and it's even better. The atmosphere is a bit loud but it's worth the experience for the taste. 830 South Coast Highway 101 Tel: (760) 943-6800

Tastes
Upscale Wine Bar & Restaurant (Moderate - Expensive) Brings together the perfect pairing of food and wine. Located in downtown Encinitas along the 101. Inside and outside dining in a super cool atmosphere. Sean Fisher, the sommelier hand picks every wine in the place. Give this one a try. 641 South Coast Highway 101   760.942.9549

Juanita's Taco Shop Website
Inexpensive Mexican food in Leucadia. Could be described as a busy roadside taco shop with great food. Everyone loves this place and it's always busy. The fish tacos are the best. Usually open late. 290 North Coast Highway 101 760.943.9612

Sakura Bana Sushi Bar
I love sushi and this is a one of a kind Sushi Bar. Food is excellent with local atmosphere at extremely reasonable prices. You can sit outside and they have been having a happy hour half price sushi from 5 to 6. The two chefs have great longevity at this place. Try it. You can't go wrong here!   1031 South Coast Highway 101 in the Lumber Yard.

St. Tropez Bakery and Starbucks -- French Bistro & Coffee
St Tropez offers authentic French provincial cuisine and pastries. Great for lunch and/or desert.  Pleasant outdoor dining next door to Starbucks. This is best for breakfast any day.    947 South Coast Highway 101   760.633.0084

Savory
Chef Pascal Vignau's favors slow-cooked comfort foods, many with classic French influences. Cozy and romantic the service is good and it's a great meal. Moderate to expensive. Located in Encinitas.

3rd Corner
Combines casual bistro style food with a wine shop. Have the local expert help you pick your bottle of wine at excellent retail prices to have with dinner (good deal). Food is great and the atmosphere is wonderful. In the Lumber Yard in Cardiff.

Cardiff by the Sea Local Restaurants

The Beach House
This is my favorite spot for lunch or dinner with out of town guests. When you call for a reservation tell Chris the manager Mickey Booz recommended you come and I guarantee he'll treat you right.  You won't be disappointed sitting outside on the beach patio since you're literally 20 feet from the water. The menu offers both classic and contemporary coastal cuisine. Upstairs is a bar with an abreviated menu that has an even better view of the Pacific.

The Chart House
Fine Dining On The Ocean (Expensive to Very Expensive)  Cardiff-By-The-Sea.
Fine dining with great service and front-row seats to waves & panoramic Southern California sunsets.  Enormous ocean-facing window-walls open the entire restaurant to the sky and Pacific Ocean.  2588 South Coast Highway 101 Tel: (760) 436-4044

Yogi's Sports Bar
If you're into watching sports and participating with the crowd this is the place for you. Typical bar food but good. Plenty of great beers on tap and super friendly people. Across the street from the Beach House and The Chart House in Cardiff.

Wine Steels in Cardiff
This is a retail wine store with a limited menu but hey who needs food when the wine is so good and cheap. Ask and they'll give you a great recommendation for a wonderful wine. Inside and outside seating and it's hot on Friday and Saturday nights. Come early to get a spot. Love this place.

South Carlsbad Local Restaurants

Casa de Bandini
The Mexican restaurant that Diane Powers operated in Old Town San Diego for 25 years until she lost her lease four years ago and was forced to close recently reopened in The Forum shopping center in South Carlsbad. Like the old Casa de Bandini (which operated in a historical 1829 adobe in Old Town), the new restaurant features the same colorful decor: Mexican folk art on the walls, festive umbrellas, Zapotec weavings, antiques and a hand-carved stone fountain. Located at 1901 Calle Barcelona in Carlsbad, is open 11 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Mondays-Thursdays, 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 10 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Sundays. Call 760-634-3443. This place is awesome and always popular!

Del Mar Local Restaurants

Pacifica Del Mar
Their specialty seafood dishes have earned them multiple fine dining awards. Upscale moderate to expensive. Coastal cuisine menu features fresh seafood, steak and pasta. Located atop the beautiful Del Mar Plaza, this is a sophisticated, elegant and busy fine-dining ocean-view restaurant. Great food, outstanding wine selection and perfect ocean view.  1555 Camino Del Mar Hwy 101 Tel: (858) 792-0476

Sbicca
I have eaten here many times and never had anything that didn't wow my taste buds. Susan Sbicca is an amazing chef, the service is first class, the view of the ocean from the upper deck is beautiful and the prices are really reasonable for such a great experience. Their wine list is wonderful by the glass or bottle. There's a new outdoor patio that was just completed. They have an annual summer party in the middle of July that's supposed to be good. Cuisine is Modern American. Near the plaza in old Del Mar.

Oceanside Local Restaurants

333 Pacific
This is one of the coolest restaurants I've been to in quite some time and it's in Oceanside, not normally known for its good restaurants or upscale atmosphere. This is somewhat pricy but it's right across from the famous Oceanside Pier which is lit up beautifully at night. The food is fabulous and they even have a separate menu for Martini's. I tried the cucumber and it was delicious. This place is trendy, crowded and totally cool. Only thing is I'm not real thrilled by what's outside the doors. The inhabitants of the area are a bit questionable but you can park under the Double Tree Hotel for free and make an easy entrance into the restaurant. It's worth the visit for the atmosphere and the food.
